Early Help for Families

Early help means providing support to our children and families at Pinxton Village Academies as soon as a problem emerges, at any point in a child’s life. We recognise the importance of supporting families to ensure that children are being given the best opportunity to develop fully in their Infant years.  All families are thrown a range of challenges to overcome and there are a range of matching services that can offer support with issues big or small.

If things are not right at home, please come and talk to us.

We can help in many ways.

Dealing with issues as early as possible would be our advice.  We have a dedicated family support worker who will be able to listen to any family concerns that you may have and offer a way forward.

Rachel BarnesFamily Support Worker

Rachel Barnes is our Children and Family Support Worker.

She can be contacted throughout the school year if you would like any support regarding looking after, and supporting the needs of, your family.

Her direct phone number is 07710025255.

Rachel can offer specific advice regarding many common family issues. However, she will also offer recommendations for specific services if the need arises.

Rachel can be contacted during school term time. During school holidays, please contact Call Derbyshire on 01629 533190 for immediate concerns, or email the school at safeguarding@pvacademies.derbyshire.sch.uk

Foodbanks

South Normanton Area Foodbank is available throughout the year for any families who find themselves struggling to afford to buy food. The foodbank is open three times a week, Tuesdays and Fridays from 1.30 - 2.30 pm, in St Michael's Church Hall, Church Street, South Normanton and Wednesdays from 2-3pm in Alfreton House, High Street, Alfreton.

In order to obtain a food parcel clients need to go to foodbank with a red voucher issued by a front line Agency. Bolsover District Council Offices situated in The Hub will issue these vouchers to families in need.

Pinxton Village Academies are able to provide vouchers for our families to access the foodbank. If you require one, please contact Rachel Barnes.

School Nurse Team

Our school nurse is Anna Dart, who is based at The Hub in South Normanton.
Anna can be contacted on 01773 599401

Safeguarding

Longwood Infant Academy, John King Infant Academy and Kirkstead Junior Academy will receive from Derbyshire Police a notification of every incident that has been reported to them or known to them of domestic abuse where a child is known to be living in the household.

This is a Derbyshire Police initiative working with Derbyshire County Council Children’s Services. Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility and this is to help schools with responses to domestic abuse by helping them support children and their families exposed to or involved in domestic abuse.

This may mean talking to pupils about their experiences, raising awareness through classroom discussion and school activities, helping victims and families by providing to them signposting information.

This school is committed to protecting children and young people and working with partners to stop domestic abuse.
